Day 11 and 12 of 21 Day Challenge: Social Media Statistics

rope_challengeOne of my goals in the 21 Day Challenge from Creating Answers was to fine tune my social media and website. I had a test of that strategy on Friday afternoon and Saturday.

With the Rush Limbaugh’s comments about Sandra Fluke raging in social media, I decided to write a blog post about the unfolding drama. Essentially, people fired up in opposition to Rush’s calling Sandra Fluke a slut were bombarding his advertisers to drop their support. Because this was so similar to the Susan G. Komen PR disaster, I wrote, and kept updated, a blog on the social media action, primarily twitter, mounting boycott Rush Limbaugh advertisers.

My original post of Rush Slut Rant Backlash Social Media went live Thursday afternoon and I kept updating it Friday and Saturday as advertisers announced a suspension of advertising and how they made the announcement. Friday, March 2nd, had the largest number of page views in a single day on my website www.insuremekevin.com . Here are some of the social media statistics.

March 2, 2012

Total page views: 327

Unique visitors: 257

Most viewed page: Rush Slut Rant Backlash Social Media with 219 views.

Visits from search engine query: 215 (Google, Yahoo, Bing, AOL)

Top search engine words: Rush Slut = 7, Rush Backlash = 5

Visitors from other sources, Twitter = 25, Facebook = 24

Outbound clicks from my site to others: 55

Bounce Rate 73%

New Visitors 89%

The single biggest source of web site traffic came from search engines where the words in the title, along with the same text in the body of the page and tags matched the search engine query. It was great that almost 90% of the visitors had never been to the site, but 73% bounced off after reading my one blog post.

Either way, I feel this is a confirmation of the approach I am taking to social media. My fine tuning seems to be working to attract people to the site, now I just need to keep them on the site.

On another goal, I purchased airline tickets for training with a life insurance company back in Detroit for March 11 – 14th.
