Day 13 of 21 Day Challenge: It’s Not What You Know, It’s What You Tweet.

rope_challengeOne of my weaknesses is saying “Yes”. You want to meet me to sell me rug shampoo? Yes. You need me to pick up the supplies even though it is out of my way? Yes. Just ask me and I’ll say Yes. Ever the eternal optimist I assume I will learn something, help someone or discover something new.

It was Monday morning when I got an email from a communications director of a large non-profit back east. It seems that they had noticed how much I was tweeting about the benefits of healthcare reform. (I actually have 8 days of scheduled tweets about the no cost preventive office visits included in healthcare reform.) To make a short story shorter, this non-profit was wondering if I would write an article about healthcare reform from the perspective of a health insurance agent who supports it.

You see, most health insurance agents hate healthcare reform. When fully implemented, the necessity of health insurance agents will be substantially reduced. Even last year the health insurance carriers slashed the commission structure in order to comply with the Medical Loss Ratios. Needless to say, I am persona non grata around most agents because I support healthcare reform.

So I just spent 4 hours writing an article that may go no where. Was it a good use of my time? If it runs as an op-ed in the Washington Post will that garner me any clients in California? I will say Yes to both because I can’t say No. Regardless, the effort of maintaining forward momentum with the 21 Day Challenge is paying some dividends already.
