Health Net Closes Their Full Network PPO Health Plan

Health Net will close their PureCare HSP, PureCare EPO, and off-exchange Full Network PPO plans at the end of 2022 in California. The Health Net Full Network PPO was the only individual and family plan that included Stanford Health Care primary care physicians.

Health Net of California

Health Net is consolidating and rebranding many of their health plans in California for 2023.

CommunityCare HMO plans will become Ambetter HMO.

EnhancedCare PPO plans will be rebranded at Ambetter PPO.

Ambetter HSP plans will close and members will automatically be moved to another plan. In Southern California, HSP members will be enrolled in an equivalent Ambetter PPO. In Kern County, members will be placed in Ambetter HMO and minimum coverage plans. If the member has aged out of the minimum coverage plan, they will be enrolled in a Bronze Ambetter HMO plan.

Ambetter EPO plans will close at the end of 2022. Members in these plans will have to select a new plan during open enrollment. Northern California members in the EPO plans who purchased health insurance though Covered California will be moved to the least expensive health plan in the metal tier of their 2022 EPO plan.

Except for a small footprint of Ambetter PPO plans around Sacramento, Health Net will concentrate all of their health insurance offerings in Kern County and Southern California.

Health Net Members Lose Access To Stanford Health Care

As of October 2022, there were no announcements that Stanford Health Care primary physicians would be in-network with any other individual and family plans. Blue Shield HMO states that Stanford hospital is in-network, but not the physicians. Valley Health Plan can make referrals to Stanford specialist doctors, but not for primary care.

Regardless of whether you have enrolled in a Health Net plan directly with the carrier or through Covered California, you should check your enrollment during the Open Enrollment Period. For some individuals and families, they will have to find an entirely new health plan and carrier. If you enrolled through Covered California, check to see what plan you have been enrolled into. You have through the Open Enrollment Period to make changes.
