We are all voyeurs to one degree or another. There is nothing wrong with watching other people stroll along the street. I see people and immediately create a story of their life for that slice of time. What is important for me is that these people be happy. I know it’s maudlin to think that, but I do. I want them to be happy. I won’t take pictures of people or places unless there is some hope in the scene.
San Francisco is special
Life for most people is never perfect. I see little value in a scene where people are pretending they have completed life’s puzzle. Those pictures are for magazine advertisement. San Francisco has a vibe unlike any other place I have visited. Even my 15 year old has noticed it by enthusing that he could see himself living there.
What I saw during the day hike
These are pictures I took of life as we walked from the Bart Embarcadero station to Fort Point under the Golden Gate Bridge, approximately a 10 mile hike round trip. All of the photos were taken with my iPhone and most have been tweaked using the Instagram mobile application. They have been reduced in size for quick loading on the website. Some of the photos just put a smile on my face and others made me reminisce for my youth that is long gone. My son is the youth now and one of the few commonalities we share is an admiration for the diversity of San Francisco. All of the pictures were taken on Sunday, February 17th, 2013. I am no photographic artist, but it is fun to snap a photo of something that can create a story in my mind…and maybe yours too.
Fort Point: Hoppers Hands are found at the end of walk way. This is also where Alfred Hitchcock filmed a scene from Vertigo where Kim Novak jumps, or falls, into the water and Jimmy Stewart jumps in to save her. I guess it is fitting that the Hoppers Hands tribute to saving those who might jump from the Golden Gate is situated next to Madeleine Elster’s attempt to take her life in Vertigo…or was she really trying or just pretending?
