In the wake of the billing nightmare revolving around Covered California ACA health plans, both Kaiser and Health Net have extended their payment deadlines for health plans effective for January 1, 2014. Kaiser will allow new plan members up to January 22 to receive the first month’s premium. Health Net will mirror the recently announced Anthem Blue Cross extension of January 31.

Health Net premium payment deadline announcement
Health Net to Extend Their Premium Payment Deadline
Extended to 1/31 for exchange plans – for an effective enrollment date of 1/1 or 2/1
Your clients have worked hard to enroll in a new ACA plan on the exchange. For those who have not completed the enrollment process by paying their first month’s premium, we want to help by ensuring they have the time to complete the process. To accomplish this, we have decided to accept the first month’s premium payment through January 31, 2014, for those seeking coverage effective either January 1, or February 1, 2014.
It’s important to note that if your client does not make their initial binder payment by 1/31/14, their plan will be terminated and they must contact the exchange (Covered California, Cover Oregon or Arizona Marketplace) and re-enroll. For those clients who do make their initial payment by this deadline, the earliest they will have coverage available to them is on 3/1/14. (Note: the enrollment deadline for2/1/14 effective coverage was 1/15/14).
You can help by contacting your clients today and informing them of this deadline. Use Health Net’s Quick Pay Form (see links below) to assist them in making this payment.
As part of our payment outreach campaign, we are providing enrollees with information on how to use our automated payment system to pay their first premium. It’s an easy and secure way for them to pay their monthly bill. Health Net’s automated payment system accepts personal checks, prepaid debit cards, debit cards and credit cards.
When using this service, your clients will need to have their Subscriber ID number. They can find this number on their Health Net Notice of Acceptance letter. If they didn’t receive this letter, they can look-up their Subscriber ID number by visiting: www.healthnet.com/getmyid.
The automated payment number is: 1-800-539-4193.
When paying, they should follow the prompts to pay their premium. When entering a Subscriber ID number, they should enter only the numbers that follow the R.
Lastly, we will be communicating to enrollees that if they make their binder payment after 1/15/14, they will receive a premium payment notice in mid-February for a due date of 3/1/14. This premium payment notice will include premium payment amounts for both February and March.
