Women are too dumb to make life decisions

Gov. Jack Dalrymple, the new God-head of North Dakota

Gov. Jack Dalrymple, the new God-head of North Dakota

With Gov. Dalrymple signing one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation, he has effectively declared that women are too dumb to make decisions concerning life and their bodies. Pro-life legislators in North Dakota, Kansas and other states firmly believe that the state must protect a woman from herself.

Single moms are moochers

All too often, when a woman does decide to have a child from an unplanned pregnancy, these socially conservative states throw up all sorts of hurdles to getting prenatal care, health insurance for the new born, food stamps and financial assistance to create a stable living environment. On top of that, conservative politicians then turn around and accuse these families of being “takers”, “freeloaders” and “moochers”.

Abolish all abortion laws

It’s time we abolish all abortion laws and put the agonizing decision on whether to terminate a pregnancy on the shoulders of those who created the situation. Women are smart enough to decide what is best for themselves and their bodies. A woman’s conscience, faith and education should be her guide about her pregnancy and not meddling politicians driven by their own religious fundamentalism.

Minimizing a woman’s intelligence

Some folks argue that unfettered access to abortion will only diminish the sanctity of life within in our society. Haven’t the laws prescribing what a woman can do with her body diminished our opinion of the intelligence of women to make their own decisions? If the state proclaims a law to prevent a decision, the state must necessarily have determined those affected are not smart enough to make an intelligent choice.

Government should make all our decisions

Before women were given the right to vote, many people improperly inferred that women were incapable of making rational and informed voting decisions. Just because the state prohibits an individual’s choice, doesn’t mean that prohibition is root in sound public policy. Unfortunately, all too many people assume that government actions are in the best interest of individuals and society.

How do we define our society?

The decision a woman makes on whether to terminate a pregnancy, give birth, give the child up for adoption, or start a family defines her, not society. Society is defined by how well we support a woman’s decision and her new born.

Full child support

If socially conservative politicians really want to support life they need to support children. A true pro-life individual would be advocating for guaranteed “no cost” prenatal visits, automatic health insurance until the child is 18 years old, and day care if the mother decides to work.

Choose life, if you can

I am firmly on the side of women not deciding to terminate a pregnancy. But I am equally dedicated to supporting a woman’s decision and supporting a child that does come into this world. If a woman decides to abort her child because it is the wrong sex or has a genetic defect, that mystery of life is on her conscience. All I can do is work to create an environment where she knows that her child will be loved, accepted and supported.

The country of North Dakota?

It is time for the Gov. Dalrymples of this world to stop thinking they are God and are smarter than women. If they really want to control the moral decisions of women let them secede from the union and start their own religious state.

It is time to abolish all abortion restricting laws and put the sole decision with the woman, her partner, family and faith.
