Recent reports detail that many app-based drivers for companies such as Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash are not taking advantage of the Proposition 22 health insurance stipend. One of the issues is the difficulty in getting the necessary information and forms to submit for the stipend to lower the cost of their health insurance. Covered California has made one part of the puzzle easy with a top-of-the-page link for the Proof of Coverage document.
Prop. 22 Health Insurance Stipend Proof of Coverage
The Proof of Coverage form must be submitted by the app-based driver, or other gig worker entitled to the health insurance stipend, in order to receive the stipend from the company. Covered California has done a great job of putting an easy link on top of the member’s home page. With one click, the most recent quarter’s Proof of Coverage form is generated in a PDF document.
The document provides the reference number, member’s name, address, date of birth, selected health plan, and which months the individual was enrolled in health insurance. Covered California has been very involved with meeting the requirements of Proposition 22. They are tasked with determining the statewide monthly premium for the Bronze plan upon which the stipend is calculated.
Of course, downloading the form on a quarterly basis is easier if the app-based driver has access to their Covered California account. If you enroll in Covered California by calling them directly or using a health insurance agent, make sure you create your own account. With your own account that has its own user name and password, you can quickly download the Proof of Coverage form to be submitted for the health insurance stipend.
