Every one wants to investigate Benghazi, DOJ subpoena of AP phone records, and the extra scrutiny Tea Party political organizations received from the IRS. But the bi-partisan scandal of the CIA paying cash to Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has been conveniently forgotten by both sides of the political aisle.
One GOP Senator questions CIA Karzai cash
Why haven’t House and Senate Committees on Foreign Relations called for investigating what Karzai has done with our tax payer cash? Only Senator Corker (R-TN) has called for an investigation after being snubbed by the State Department. Our government at the upper levels, President Bush and Obama, House leaders Boehner and Pelosi, and Senate Leaders McConnell and Reid have all known about the secret payments. There is a conspiracy of silence, no doubt wrapped in the mantle of national security, which has kept this egregious government sanctioned bribery scandal out of public scrutiny.
Where are the Tea Party Patriots?
We have more information on President Obama’s program of extra-judicial assassinations then we do on the extortion cash paid to corrupt foreign government leaders by the CIA. If the Tea Party leader Sen. Rand Paul can filibuster over the drone program and feign indignation over senate colleagues questioning Apple CEO Cook over avoiding taxes, why can’t he summon the courage to question these black hole budget items of cash to foreign governments?
Some of the questions I have about the payments to Karzai
- How much has been paid and for how long?
- Who first authorized and then reauthorized the payments?
- What did the United States receive in return?
- What has Karzai done with the cash?
- Did any of these funds go to fund Afghanistan militias?
- How much money was paid to assassinated brother of Afghan President, Wali Karzai?
- Was any of the money used to create improvised explosive devices use to kill U.S. troops?
We score more points on Benghazi
Instead of getting to the truth of how many U.S. service members may have been killed in Afghanistan with CIA money to the corrupt government, Republicans are flogging the dead horse of Benghazi. Democrats are no less complicit in the avoidance to learn how the dirty CIA money may have been used against us.
Senator Corker questioned Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman about the secret CIA payment.
“[D]oes delivering cash to an elected leader–does that help us root out corruption in that country,” asked Corker.
Sherman responded saying, “My sense is the particular instance that you’re discussing is better discussed in a classified session.”
“Well, had it been discussed in a classified setting I couldn’t talk about it. And yet the president of Afghanistan is talking about it; and so it is in a public setting, and I expect a public response…I guess I’ll have to ask the president of Afghanistan what is happening with this cash,” replied Corker, who has twice written President Barack Obama seeking an explanation for how these payments support the U.S. mission in Afghanistan but has yet to receive a response.
What is so classified about the cash to Hamid Karzai that the administration, Senate and House leaders don’t want to discuss? Heck, Karzai seems happy to talk about. Subpoena him and get some answers. Oh wait, he’s not a U.S. citizen and he might spill the beans on what our elected officials know.
Benghazi, IRS, AP are diversions
The real scandal is not some low level IRS bureaucrat being aggressive over granting tax exempt status to a political organization posing as social welfare nonprofit. The real cover up is not the poor execution of talking points over the terrorist attack in Benghazi. The real abuse of power is not the lawful subpoenaing of AP phone records into national security leaks.
Conspiracy of silence
The lack of investigation and forthcoming information about secret CIA operations that may have led to the deaths of Americans and U.S. troops is the real scandal. Perhaps the most disturbing aspect is that Democrats and Republicans are conspiring together to keep this information out of the media spotlight. We may yet learn more about this disgusting CIA operation of bribing a corrupt foreign president for cooperation, but you can bet powerful political and business operatives will fight the release of information all the way.
