Pre-Existing Condition Premiums Reduced

Premiums Cut For Americans With Pre-Existing Conditions.
The Washington Post /Kaiser Health News (7/4, Andrews) reports that “the Obama administration reduced the premiums by up to 40 percent in special high-risk insurance plans that the federal government is running in 17 states and the District.” These high-risk insurance plans were created in the 2010 healthcare bill and provide insurance coverage to those Americans with preexisting conditions. Six states will cut their premiums by 40%, whereas other participating states will cut their rates between 15 to 25 percent. Mississippi will reduce its premiums by the lowest amount of the group, 2%. The premium rates have been reduced because they “take into account more state-specific data and thus more closely track the standard rates for individual policies in each state, as the law requires.”
