People who have Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plans (PCIP) through the California PCIP are being transitioned to a federal administrator of the program July 1. Letters have been sent out to members enrolled in the PCIP program directing them to send their next payment to the National Finance Center.
California PCIP administer by federal third party
The transition to the third party administrator, National Finance Center (NFC), looks to be a little clumsy and confusing. The letter doesn’t look it is official with no government logos or typical small print. NFC contracts with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to administer different payroll and health benefits information for federal employees. They are also acting as the Direct Premium Remittance System (DPRS), which is used for billing and collecting health insurance premiums from eligible non-Federal enrollees who elect to participate in the FEHB program. Covered California coming online for 2014
If you haven’t, make the premium payment to keep the insurance enforce. You will have the opportunity to enroll in Covered California health insurance exchange starting October 1, 2012 for new coverage starting January 1, 2014. This will be guarantee coverage like PCIP with better rates from what I have seen. In addition, some people will qualify for help to make the premium payments for the qualified health insurance plans offered through Covered California. Hopefully, the new NFC premium collection will have little impact on the health insurance through the carrier in California. Here is copy of the two page letter sent to California PCIP members.
