While some industry analysts point a finger at new guarantee issue rules for individual plans as a reason UHC and Aetna are vacating California, both are still retaining their lines of employer group business which IS ALL GUARANTEE ISSUE. It is rather disheartening that UHC and Aetna have taken such a cynical profit driven approach to the individual market in California and in other states.

Part of Covered California’s mission is to improve health care quality and lower costs. In an attempt to meet these goals they announced a partnership with the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation’s Choosing Wisely initiative. The Choosing Wisely initiative seeks to encourage better dialog between patients and physicians to reduce duplicative tests based on evidence when charting the most effective course of treatment.
The new Instagram video sharing app is nothing to get excited about. It has some real shortcomings that don’t have simple solutions. Instagram photos are interesting 20% of the time. I suspect the videos, like the majority of photos, will either be horribly mundane and a waste of storage or be hyper-produced which looses the whole allure of spontaneous (instant) capture of life that Instagram is suppose to offer.

People who have Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plans (PCIP) through the California PCIP are being transitioned to a federal administrator of the program July 1. Letters have been sent out to members enrolled in the PCIP program directing them to send their next payment to the National Finance Center.
