Kaiser Permanente has put together a very simple to use Affordable Care Act tax credit calculator for small groups. The calculator only works for small business groups in California. It is not calibrated for non-profits which have a different tax credit allowance for employer contributions to employee health insurance for 2014.
The tax calculator is embedded a few screens into the site on a page called Your small business coverage options. In the middle frame of the page will be Purchase small group coverage from the state’s health insurance marketplace (the SHOP). Click “Explore This Option” button to proceed. Near the bottom of the next page will be a link called Use the tax credit calculator to see if you qualify.
That link will open a page where you can put in number of employees, annual hours, wages, and average employer contribution to employees health insurance premiums. The program will then give an estimate of the federal tax credit. The tax credits are only available for small groups that purchase health insurance through Covered California SHOP (Small Business Health Options Program).
The tax credit calculator is not specific to Kaiser small group plans.
