Covered California has added a couple of different ways to verify your income without submitting paper documents. In some cases, you can provide a reason why your income does match the estimate. Another avenue is to attest to your income online through your Covered California account.

You may have received the dreaded Covered California letter demanding you prove or verify your income estimate. The income verification is triggered when the estimated income on the application is plus or minus 20 percent of the last filed federal tax return. This is very common for people who are self-employed or households whose main source of income is from investments.
Proof of Income for Covered California Online
First, go to your Covered California account and find the actual action requested. Sometimes, Covered California wants a reason why the income estimate is inconsistent with the electronic sources they check.

Providing a Reason for Income Inconsistency
Click on the blue hyperlink to Give a Reason for why the income does not match. You will be taken to a new page.
Covered California provides several common reasons why the income does not match on the drop-down menu. You can select the most appropriate reason or select Other and type in a reason.
Once you have submitted the reason, the alert for action will usually disappear. There are times when Covered California must have more concrete information regarding your income.
Submitting Online Income Attestation
You are not given the opportunity to offer a reason of income inconsistency. You must provide proof of income. Click on the upload eligibility documents.

From the Proof of Income box, scroll all the way down to the bottom to complete an online attestation form. Click the complete attestation button.

Your estimated income from the Covered California application will populate in the Annual household income box. Read through the attestation conditions and understandings. If you are comfortable that you have met all the conditions, and your income estimate is your best, most honest estimate for the year, you can electronically sign the document.
Submitting the online attestation for all of the household members, should clear the verification request. Confirm that all household members are no longer under the proof of income verification request. Once complete, you will be in good standing with Covered California for proof and verification of income. If you change your income during the year, a new income verification request may be generated.
