PPO Dental Plans for Individuals, Families, and Seniors

There are a variety of dental PPO plans for individuals, families, and seniors in California in 2026. Some of the dental plans have immediate coverage while others have waiting periods before the dental plan shares in the costs of dental services. There are also different marketing channels that offer enrollment in the dental plans.

I have put together a spreadsheet of some of the PPO dental plans offered in California for 2026. The spreadsheet does not provide an exhaustive list of covered services or restrictions, but it allows you to compare the maximum annual benefit, cost-sharing percentages, and monthly rates.

The dental plan review and spreadsheet leans heavily on Delta Dental. However, there are many dental plans from other carriers that work just as well and are competitively priced. While you can enroll directly with many dental plans, there are situations where you must use a specific marketing channel such as the Morgan White Group or Covered California.

PPO Dental Plan Review

You will notice that the monthly premium tracks with the annual maximum benefit. The higher the maximum benefit, the higher the monthly premium.

Delta Dental Direct

Delta Dental offers two PPO plans direct. The Premium plan has a maximum benefit of $2,000 and no waiting period for preventive services. The Basic plan only has a $1,000 maximum benefit annually.

A big difference between Premium and Basic plans is the cost sharing and coverage. With the Premium plan your cost sharing is 20 percent for minor restoration. The Basic plan has a higher cost sharing of 50 percent for minor work like a cavity filling. The Basic plan has no coverage root canals or crowns. The narrow coverage of the Basic plan is reflected in the lower monthly premium of $35 a month versus $74 for the Premium plan.

Morgan White Group Delta Dental

Another marketing channel for Delta Dental PPO plans is through the group association of the Morgan White Group. These plans have a progressive cost-sharing structure. The longer you are enrolled, the lower your dental service cost-sharing. By year three, many of the preventive services are $0 cost to you with in-network dentists. The Immediate Coverage plan has a $3,000 maximum annual benefit.

The Morgan White Group Delta Dental plans do not have a traditional waiting period. Instead, with the No Wait and Immediate Coverage plans, Delta Dental will share in the cost of minor and major dental services in the first year.

Covered California Dental Plans

Another way to enroll in Delta Dental is through Covered California. You must be enrolled in a health plan to enroll in a Covered California dental plan. Regardless of the carrier (Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Humana), all of the plans are the same. They all have a $1,500 maximum annual benefit and a six-month waiting period.

Preventive services are $0 cost with no waiting period. Minor restoration services have a 20 percent member coinsurance. Major dental services will have the dental plan sharing 50 percent of the cost with in-network dentists. None of the plans include adult orthodontia or coverage for implants. Some of the other plans direct from Delta Dental or the other carriers will cover other services such as implants and teeth whitening.
