Yappy Hour was actually a little on the quiet side the evening I was attendance. But for the more than 15 dogs that brought their owners to the Yappy Hour at La Provence in Roseville, they enjoyed a relaxing outdoor gathering on a warm September afternoon.
Relaxing
This casual gathering was hosted by Home Buddies of Roseville pet sitting service and VibraPet Foods. It is quite the alternative to the socializing at a dog park or dog festival. The atmosphere is much less exuberant and the pet owners have a chance to relax and exchange notes on puppy progress.
My new furry friends
To be honest, I am always somewhat intimidated by dogs. I
am sure it is from some deep-seated psychological quirk in my brain that I give dogs lots or personal space. However, on this evening all the dogs, young and old, invited me over to talk with them. I became so close with some of the pooches they gave me a good-by smooch on the cheek.
Artesian water?
The chauffeurs for the dogs, also know as pet owners or parents, were as equally gracious as the
puppies. Anne Lesemann, co-owner of Home Buddies with Laura Hudson, was on hand to greet the arrivals. She strategically place nice big bowls of cool water around for the dogs as the owners imbibed their favorite craft beer or wine.
A real home town buffet
I also met Kris Fuentes owner of VibraPet Foods who was handing out doggy Hors d’oeuvre. It was kick to learn how Kris makes home style, fresh cooked dog food and treats right here in the area. I feel the need to visit here kitchen and do a blog post on home cooking for pets.
Photo op
I have a new found respect for pet photographers. Dogs really don’t care that you are taking their picture. They are constantly on the move to kiss you, see what the dog next to them is doing or looking to see if mom or dad have any treats from their plates. The best way for me to get their photograph was to get on my knees and show them some love. It worked for everyone.
Even though this Yappy Hour was the last of the season, they will convene again next spring. Follow Home Buddies of Roseville on Facebook for updates and then come out for a relaxing evening with your pooch. Maybe next year I’ll have my own puppy to bring.
