Gusty winds ushered in the first gala fundraiser organized by the Firefighters Burn Institute in Sacramento. However, no one seemed fazed when the large white event tent seemed to be going air born because there was too much good food, beverage, music and people.
Greeted by coconut shells and leis
“A Tropical Affair” held on a large grassy area was a fundraiser benefiting the Firefighters Burn Institute, UC Health System and Shriners Hospital for Children, Northern California. The event was specifically billed as a casual event and attendees were encouraged to wear tropical attire. There was a wide assortment of local wineries, breweries, a sake company, and food provided by local restaurants and catering companies. Dance music was performed by Wonder Bread 5, a collection of ’70’s and ’80’s music, really seemed to click with those inclined to get up and dance.

The fundraiser event tickets were $60 each or 2 for $100. When you combined the people, food, beverages, music and the important support of our regional burn units, “A Tropical Affair” was a wonderfully valued event. I would not be surprised if the crowd grew by double next year when folks learn how much fun a tropical evening can be in Sacramento.
