Covered California consumers who enrolled on or after February 18, 2024, should confirm they paid their initial payment online or contact Kaiser Permanente at 888-236-4490 to make a payment to effectuate their coverage.
In late February a vendor partner that Kaiser Permanente contracts with experienced system issues resulting in delays in sending some KPIF health plan correspondence related to billing and enrollment, including binder payment letters, confirmation of enrollment letters, coverage termination letters, past due notices, and declined payment notices, for KPIF On-Exchange members in California.
What action is Kaiser Permanente taking?
We are temporarily changing print vendors this month to ensure that our members receive timely communications.
Kaiser Permanente is taking the following actions to ensure your impacted members do not lose coverage:
- Recent applicants who opted to be billed for their initial binder payment will have their due date extended to 3/31/24 to prevent cancellation of their application.
- Affected subscribers will have a “do not cancel” placed on their account until 3/31/24.
- We will be sending an SMS to impacted applicants with a 3/1 or 4/1 coverage effective date telling them to contact us to make a payment:
- SMS message to impacted applicants with a 3/1 effective date (sent 3/13): Due to a system issue, we were unable to mail your payment reminder. To ensure you have coverage beginning 3/1, please contact us to complete the payment at 888-236-4490. We apologize for any inconvenience.
- 3/26 message to impacted applicants with a 4/1 effective date: Due to a system issue, we were unable to mail your payment reminder. To ensure you have coverage beginning 4/1, please contact us to complete the payment at 888-236-4490. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Some people have had their Kaiser plans mysteriously cancelled. The late notices may not have been sent due to the above mentioned billing problems. Covered California may show that the plan is terminated for lack of payment. Once the payments are made, Kaiser will alert Covered California that the health plan is active and the household members are enrolled.
