Senator Barbara Boxer rallying the crowd to stop the war on women being led by the Republicans.
For a brief one hour at Roseville’s Woodcreek Golf Course you would have thought you stepped into Obama country. The banquet hall was standing room only as President Obama supporters packed the banquet hall to hear Senator Barbara Boxer extol the virtues of re-electing the President. In a rare visit to the Roseville area, Senator Barbara Boxer brought out the blue to a typically conservative south Placer County.
Senator Boxer was introduced by California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton. True to form, Burton peppered his talk with lots of salty language about the current state of politics. While the crowd, dominated by seniors from the neighboring retirement community Sun City, Roseville, chuckled at Burton’s assessments, the attendees were eagerly waiting the arrival of Senator Boxer.
As Boxer strode to the podium to chants of “We want Barbara”, a room full of Democratic party faithful burst into applause. The Senator’s speech was aimed at defending President Obama’s past accomplishments and the difference between him and Republican presumptive Presidential nominee Mitt Romney. With better than half the room being of retirement age, there was keen interest in Boxer’s perspective on the current Medicare debate.
However, with this crowd, Boxer didn’t have to convince them that Medicare has been strengthened under President Obama. Nonetheless, she outlined the stark differences between where Medicare is today and the significant changes proposed under Congressman Paul Ryan’s budget plan.
Boxer deftly wove the recent comments of Senatorial candidate Rep. Todd Akin regarding “legitimate rape” into her speech, high lighting what has been described as the Republican’s war on women. She noted how congressman Akin was a cosponsor to the personhood bill authored by congressman and Vice Presidential select Paul Ryan. Under the personhood bill, birth control pills could conceivably be outlawed.
As quickly as the Senator arrived, she pumped up the faithful crowd of Democratic loyalists and then she was off to her next event. This was an exceeding polite, but supportive, crowd that was deeply appreciative of Senator Boxer’s stop in Roseville to show some love to the Blue in Placer County.
