Since our son was in a stroller we have been taking him to the UC
Davis Picnic Day. We start off with the Alumni Pancake Breakfast, watch the parade, and visit a few of the department demonstrations. We wrap up the afternoon by lounging in the quad listening to music, eating and relaxing.
The parade is really a community event. From local clubs and community organizations to campus departments and political groups, all are welcome to participate in the parade. The parade is a reflection of community spirit and campus pride bundled up with some marching bands and fire trucks.
The 2012 Picnic Day saw over 80,000 people visit the campus and it showed. But as usual, the whole Picnic Day atmosphere is pretty family friendly. There are a range of activities to pursue from very simple craft making to watching engineering lasers. The most popular demonstrations such as the Chemistry and Physics shows fill up fast.
Even though we were late to getting tickets for the Medical House of Horrors display, we found lots of interesting open departments. You just can’t go wrong when you visit Picnic Day. There will always be something to entertain everyone in the family.
The quad features all the campus groups selling tasty lunch fair. Live music fills the air along an olfactory bonaza of different spices and cooking entree’s. Below are just some of the sites and sounds I captured from the pancake breakfast, parade, quad and different departments we visited. At the end are the videos.
