L.A. Care Medi-Cal Fined $55 million for Slow Responses, Delayed Treatments

L.A. Care’s systemic failure to timely process prior authorizations for health care services delayed members’ access to medically necessary health care services and had a detrimental impact on its members. Examples of member harm caused by authorization delays include a cancer patient’s health deteriorating, a plan member suffering extreme pain for over two weeks, and another cancer patient given a prognosis of six to nine months to live who disenrolled from L.A. Care because of treatment delays.

Covered California Updated 2022 Income Table and New Enrollment Events

The minimum annual income in order to become eligible for the Covered California health insurance subsidies for a single adult is $18,756 for 2022. That is $980 higher than the minimum annual income for 2021, approximately a 6 percent increase. The minimum amount for 2 adults is $25,269 annual income. Estimated income amounts below 138 percent of the federal poverty level on the Covered California application will make the household eligible for Medi-Cal.

Amos Catlin, From Mormon Island Mining to Sacramento Judge

“Amos P. Catlin, The Whig Who Put Sacramento On The Map,” chronicles Amos’ life from his arrival in California in 1849 to his death in 1900 in Sacramento. Particular attention is paid to Amos’ work on organizing and building the Natoma water ditch in the early 1850s. It was during the ditch construction that Amos was elected to the California Senate. He wrote the bill to relocate the state’s capital to Sacramento. However, Amos did not consider the water projects or the state capital his most significant accomplishments in life.

As I studied the variety of paver catalogs, my eyes kept coming back to the concrete cobble stone pavers. I liked the lines, shadows, colors, and certain random nature of the small irregular cobble stone paver. As real granite cobble stones were out of my budget, the target became one of the manufactured concrete cobble stone-like pavers. To complicate the design, we wanted to keep the walkway as a design element as it is a welcoming feature leading guests to the front door. The walkway would need to be a different style of paver.

Someone, Blue Cross or UC, pulled the plug retroactively to January 1. Fortunately, Blue Cross expanded their EPO network to include Sutter doctors and hospitals for 2022.

Big Increase for the 2022 Medi-Cal Income Amounts

For a single adult, the monthly Medi-Cal income was $1,482. In 2022, the monthly income will increase to $1,564. In other words, an adult can earn up to $1,564 per month and still qualify for no cost Medi-Cal. MAGI Medi-Cal annual amounts for a single adult increased to $18,755, from $17,775 in 2021, for a single adult.

A single application that can be shared between different caregivers, perhaps several children take turns caring for an elderly parent, will keep the current care giver abreast of the latest conditions and medications. HeyRenee would not become a patient advocate, but a program to support the patient, doctors, and caregivers. The app can be interactive prompting medication alerts and accepting a reply that the drug was taken. In addition, a telemedicine appointment could be included in the app for a quick diagnosis or update if conditions worsen.

PPO dental plans are more widely accepted than HMO plans. PPO plans will also reimburse you if you receive services from an out-of-network dentist. You will always minimize your out-of-pocket costs if you use an in-network dentist. PPO plans have higher monthly premiums because of the larger network of dentists and the out-of-network coverage provided. None of the dental plans will cover implants, tooth whitening, or adult orthodontics.
